Arrive in Fukuoka, meet your Japanese guide, transfer to Nagasaki for dinner and overnight.
Enjoy your first full day in Japan. Visit the Twenty-Six Martyrs Museum and Monument, a site honoring the 26 Christians martyred in 1597 including St. Paul Miki. Learn how they suffered for the Faith when it was outlawed, and how the Christians went underground for two centuries. Next visit the Oura Cathedral which was build when Christianity was once again allowed in the international district of Nagasaki. Finally, visit the Seibo-no-Kishi Monastery of St. Maximilian Kolbe as well as the Lourdes Grotto he built. Mass and dinner.
Visit the Kurosaki Church and the Karematsu Shrine dedicated to the "hidden Christians" who practiced their Faith in secret during two centuries of persecution. Next visit Father de Rotz Memorial Hall to see the exhibits on his life and work dedicated to the people of Sotome. Finally, visit Bastian's House, a cave where Christian leader Bastian hid and secretly continued ministry after the ban on Christianity. Mass and dinner.
Begin with Mass at the rebuilt Urakami Cathedral which lies within one mile of Ground Zero of the Atomic Bomb that fell on August 9th, 1945. Visit the hermitage and museum of Dr. Takashi Nagai to expereience the story of his spiritual journey of peace and forgiveness. Finally, experience Peace Park, Ground Zero, and the Peace Memorial Museum for a powerful reminder of the destructive power of nuclear weapons. Dinner and overnight.
Depart Japan's Fukuoka Airport for Seoul. Meet your JMJ Guide at the airport, transfer to your lodging and prepare for WYD. Dinner and overnight.
Experience the woven contrast of ancient and modern on a walking tour of Seoul. Highlights include one of the Joseon Dynasty palace grounds, walking through the Hanok Village of Insadong, and praying in the Myeongdong Cathedral.
Take a day trip to the Martyrs Shrines of Chungnam.
Highlights include visiting the Haemi International Shrine and the Mirinae Shrine.
Catechesis continues this morning with talks, testimonies, music, and another teaching by a Bishop followed by Mass. After WYD lunch, make your way to the Welcoming Ceremonies with our Holy Father! The event is followed by an evening concert on the main stage. Dinner in the area.
Friday begins with Catechesis with talks, testimonies, music, and another teaching by a Bishop followed by Mass. The World Youth Day Cultural Festival event options continue around the city followed by Stations of the Cross in the evening.
Celebrate Mass this morning in the city, then prepare for your pilgrimage walk to the chosen WYD Vigil site. Expect lots of walking to the Vigil where you will gather with 1,000,000 new friends. The Vigil is when our Holy Father offers the main address to the youth, then joins us in adoration of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. The vigil is usually followed by music and celebration before everyone sleeps out under the stars.
Wake up this morning to a new day! Our Holy Father returns for Sunday morning Mass, then at the end, announces the location of the next World Youth Day! Pilgrimage walk back to your lodging to rest and relax. Free evening to find your own dinner.
Free morning with your JMJ guide in Seoul. You can choose to relax, move around in small groups to revisit highlights, or explore the city as a group. Breakfast will be at the hotel.
Depart by private coach to Seoul's Incheon Airport for your flight home.
Group transportation for those on the flight package between the airport and your lodging upon arrival and departure.
Land Only pilgrims arriving/departing at the same or similar time as the rest of the group may opt to join this transfer, or will be responsible for their own transfers.
